Over the past few months, I’ve been going through a period of change in my personal life which in turn has led me to really look at my professional life as well. It’s interesting how change in one aspect of your life can so often be ignored. We plough through life not being receptive to what’s really happening and yet, the smallest change can have a massive impact later on. So what I’ve been contemplating recently is accepting what life has given to me and accepting that I can either get upset about what’s happening or I can embrace it, knowing that something is round the corner that will shape my life in a different way.
One of the things I’ve been thinking about is how we allow the jobs and roles we do to define us. If I ask you who you are, what is your immediate answer? Most people tend to come up with responses like, “I’m a mom”, “I’m a yoga teacher”, “I’m an entrepreneur”. I’ve spent more than 20 years working in various capacities in the fitness industry and established a certain “status” within it. When I now consider shifting my direction, honestly, it’s kinda scarey to let go! Despite me believing that I’ve always been true to myself, the ego still kicks in to remind us it’s there and whilst I know deep down in my heart where my future lies, it’s still hard to let go, which is why last month’s theme was BE BRAVE.
“May I be free to feel my true passions, desires, and feelings and be at home in my heart.” Anonymous
How true and yet how challenging? Through all the personal development I’ve done, I’ve learnt that being clear on our own identity is an essential foundation for a happy life. So often I see new Presenters coming through, desperate almost to be someone else; someone they think people want. Yet, trying to be someone else only leads to disappointment and unhappiness.
Knowing the answer to “Who Am I” brings internal peace. Imagine how peaceful the world would be if everyone started doing the hardest pose of all … being themselves.
So as I strive towards my future, I invite you to be strong, be yourself and love yourself ..
from this day forth …
